Four creative ways to get your family exercising together

family dancing, family moving, happy family

Working out regularly will improve your mood and help you maintain stamina during everyday activities, such as taking the stairs and shopping. In addition to all of this, if you have trouble sleeping or are feeling stressed, regular exercise can promote better sleep and reduce stress, and if you exercise as a family, you can bond more! Also, it is always easier to train with someone, especially when you have creative ways to get moving.

But while all of this sounds good, the reality is that, when you’ve got a busy career and an even busier life, it can be hard to find the time (and a way) to get your whole family to do some exercise together. So now we are going to look at some creative ways that your whole family can get their heart racing while having fun together.

1. Dance

Dancing tends to bring out two very particular but opposing sides to people some shamelessly bust out every move they can think of when their favourite song comes on, while others impulsively cross their arms and self-consciously shuffle their feet ever so slightly. But when you’re with your family in the living room, there is no need to feel embarrassed about dancing.

Just put on the jams and dance around with the kids for 20 minutes they’ll absolutely love it, and you’ll all get the workout you need. This is a great way to work out and have fun.

2. Obstacle course

You can use your creative side and set up something elaborate, or you could just do a basic exercise circuit, but an obstacle course is a fun way to get every member of the family involved, and it doesn’t have to cost a cent!

The obstacle course can also be picked up and packed away easily, meaning you can get regular exercise often.

3. Fitness TV games

You and your kids may find yourselves glued to the Play Station, Wii, or Xbox far too often, but you don’t need to always drag yourselves away to get your heart rates up. There are loads of fitness games out there that are ideal for everyone. Just make sure you move the furniture out of the way so that you have plenty of room to move around.

This is a fun way to get moving while also spending time with one another.

4. Swimming

If you’ve got a swimming pool at home, great! But even if you don’t, there are public pools all over, so spending a few hours with the kids at your local one is an excellent way to get some healthy exercise.

Swimming is truly one of the best exercises you can do because it puts little to no strain on your body and works just about every muscle. Many public pools are heated, too, so they’re ideal in winter too.

Whichever family exercise you decide to do, remember that it’s better than just sitting on the couch watching TV or being glued to your screen! And remember that you can get affordable health insurance cover for yourself, your partner, and two children.
