This is why your workplace should be a happy and healthy space. But you need to do a little work to get it there…

The trick is to start implementing these small yet realistic changes into your everyday life at work. And we promise, by doing this, it will make a huge difference in your mental and physical wellbeing.

This means that not only will your work life improve, but so will your family life as you will be a healthier and happier version of yourself.

1. Start the day with a healthy, nutritious breakfast (no skipping out on this meal!)

Kick start your busy day with a healthy and filling breakfast.

Many people do not realise how important breakfast is, let alone think they have time for it.

And we know what you are thinking “but I have that meeting at 9am, or I have a deadline to meet and just don’t have the time.” So, you end up grabbing something quick and often, unhealthy to eat.

Big mistake.

Eating a healthy breakfast will power you through the day, keep you fuller for longer and curb cravings for sugar and caffeine.

Have a look at these healthy breakfast recipes.

If in doubt, try a protein smoothie:

  1. One banana
  2. One cup milk (almond is a great option)
  3. One teaspoon peanut butter
  4. Oats (or protein shake if you have)
  5. Teaspoon of honey
  6. Ice

And blend it all together for a nutritious brekkie.

2. Say no to unhealthy snacks

Say no to the chips, chocolate and other sugary or oily snacks on the go at work.

3. Pack your own lunch

One of the best ways to save money and stay healthy is to pack your own lunch.

Try stick to protein (chicken breasts or mince), veggies (and lots of them) and a healthy carb like sweet potato or brown rice.

Stay away from bread, processed carbs and other oily foods like chips or anything deep fried.

4. Drink more water!

We can’t stress the importance of drinking water enough!

When you are dehydrated, you will suffer from exhaustion, headaches and might binge out on food instead of just having a glass of water.

You need to drink AT LEAST 6 to 8 glasses a day.

5. Take the stairs and take a walk

During your lunch break, take a little walk around your building.

Take the stairs instead of the lift.

Try and get in as much exercise as you can, wherever you can.

Why not do 5 squats every time you go to the bathroom?

6. Sit up straight

Do not lean into your computer screen.

Bad posture can lead to back and neck issues and even headaches.

Adjust your chair so that your lower back is supported. Your feet are flat on the floor. Your wrists and forearms are straight and your elbows are at the side of your body.

7. Manage your stress

Don’t forget to take some time to breathe.

Meditation, yoga and deep breathing are all great ways to release stress.

When something stressful happens, try taking 3 deep breaths before you react.

Do whatever you can to try and ease your stress at work and lower your stress levels.

8. Go for regular health checks

So many of us will work until our immune systems are too exhuasted to fight off invading bacteria and viruses.

This is why it is so important to go for regular check ups at your doctor so that he or she can give us a flu shot, check on any symptoms (like that cough that won’t go away or a runny nose) and perhaps pick up on anything you might not know about.

Routine care is more important that you may think.

9. Keep your work station clean

Think about all that nasty bacteria and all the germs sitting on your keyboard right now.

Pretty gross, right?

Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer at your desk and sanitizing wipes and clean your desk as often as you can to avoid any infections or bugs.
