Here’s how we make pet insurance cuddle-worthy

Smart claims system

When it comes to vet visits and routine care claims, we have changed the game. How we did this is by creating a smart claims system that fronts you with the cash you need BEFORE you see your vet. (Oh, and by the way, we also let you go to ANY vet of your choice).

When you become a part of our Oneplan Family, we will send you your own unique Onecard. When it comes time to visit your vet, we will preload this card with the funds you need for the vet visit.

Here’s how our claims system works
  • Login to your Oneplan App
  • Enter your policy number and password
  • Load your claim
  • Select the item you want to claim for
  • Select the date you want to claim for the consultation
  • A confirmation SMS will be sent to you informing you of the money will be loaded onto your Onecard
  • Remember to validate your claim by snapping a photo of your invoice and uploading this to the App after your vet consultation

Pet insurance that covers pre existing conditions

The majority of pet insurers will not include cover for pre-existing conditions. These are health issues that your pet showed signs of or was diagnosed with BEFORE your cover began. The cost of treating pre-existing conditions can put a huge strain on your budget.

Other insurers totally exclude these conditions, but with us, after abiding by our waiting period of 12 months, your pet is covered. In the grand scheme of things, 12 months is a small amount of time when it comes to treating serious health issues over a long period of time.

Let’s look at an example

For example, your pet might have cancer which is incredibly expensive to treat and requires chronic medication. If your pet is diagnosed with cancer today and you make the smart decision of getting pet insurance the moment you find out, then you only have to wait 12 months until your pet receives the cover for healthcare he or she needs.

This doesn’t mean you can’t claim for other medical bills and events. Depending on your plan, you can still claim for any check-ups, vaccinations or accidents and emergencies. Accident cover is immediate. The same waiting period applies to Congenital (disease your pet is born with) and Hereditary (inherited condition from parents) health issues.

We have one of the highest annual cover limits

If you do a little digging into what other pet insurers are offering, you might find that our pet healthcare plans offer one of the highest annual benefits. What this means is that our maximum overall annual limit for your pet claims is one of the highest compared to other pet insurers. Our annual cover limit is an average of R48 500* (that’s a pretty high number). For example, the annual cover limit for our Pet Super Plan is R75 000*.

Routine care is included in our plans and not as additional cost

We include routine care benefits in your monthly premium. Other insurers will typically charge an additional amount for routine care benefit to be added to your pet insurance plan.

What is routine care and what does it include?

Routine care visits are check-ups and forms of preventive care. These include:

  • Sterilisation
  • Consultations for and/or vaccinations, deworming, flea control
  • Anal gland expression
  • Teeth scaling and polishing
What plans include routine care?
  • Pet Primary Plan: R1000 per annum*
  • Pet Classic Plan: R5 600 per annum (up to R1 400 per vet visit)*
  • Pet Super Plan: R6 600 per annum (up to R1650 per vet visit)*

PLUS, if that wasn’t pawsome enough, we also include a Pet Med Savings benefit of R800* and R900* on the Pet Classic and Super Plans respectively. This is a savings benefit you can use towards chronic meds or any other routine care shortfalls you may have. Our Pet Med Booster Add-On also lets you add Pet Med Savings to our other plans from only R35pm!

Monthly Savings on Pet Food & Supplies

At Oneplan, we’re all about giving our clients value back to make their pet insurance premiums more affordable. That’s why, as a Oneplan Pet Parent, you get exclusive access and up to 25% discount* (on EVERYTHING) in the Onepet Online Store for the lifetime of your policy.

This means you’re able to save monthly on premium pet food brands like Hill’s, Royal Canin, and Montego, as well as tick & flea, dewormer, chronic care, grooming products, collars & leashes, and even toys. We like to think that these savings are offset from your pet insurance premium, making it much more budget-friendly in the long run.

The final word

Finding a pet insurance plan that suits your pet’s needs and your budget is something that is a personal decision and one that requires a lot of research and quote comparing. But remember, never base your choice on price alone. Cheaper doesn’t always mean better when it comes to insuring the health of your pet.

Some insurers might offer a great price in terms of monthly premiums, but there are often a number of hidden terms and conditions within your policy that you might not be aware of. This means that, in the long run, you end up paying in more than you bargained for.

Make sure you read the fine print and choose an insurer that is best for your wallet and your pet’s health.
