Love is in the air and it’s time to show that you love your car.
The day of love is near, the day of celebrating the great loves in our lives, from friends, family and partners – the chocolate is everywhere and the flowers are flowing. On a day like this, we start to think about the things most important to us, and when you give it some thought, your car is one of those things
Your trusty set of wheels is there for you through it all – the traffic, the Monday blues, the braai with mates you can’t wait to get to, the sing-along road trips, that first date and so much more.
Okay, maybe your car has broken down on you or left you stranded on the side of the road with a flat tyre, but no matter what, your car always tries his (or her) best to be there for you.
It only makes sense that we should repay our cars for all the miles and smiles they have given us…
So, here’s how you can show that you love your car:
Pamper your car
Now, we aren’t talking about taking your car to a spa, but this is sort of the same thing… Whether you wash your car yourself or take your car to a proper car wash bay, make sure you pamper your vehicle the right way. Here is why washing your car is a great idea.
- Keeping your car clean will keep it in good condition.
- Washing your car regularly and thoroughly will help to prevent rust and will also stop any acidic dirt and muck or damp from eating away at your wheel arches and engine.
- Going to a proper car wash will use less water compared to you doing the job at home.
It comes down to this… Look after and love your car and your car will look after you.
Make sure your tyre treads are in shape
Check out the tread depths of your tyres. Under South African law, your treads must be at least 1.6mm deep around the tyre’s circumference.
We get that buying a new set of wheels can be an expensive thing to do, but if you don’t you could be risking a blowout and a serious accident.
Make sure your car is covered for accidents
Here’s the thing… Accidents do happen, and the worst part is we never know when something might go wrong.

Because of this, you need to make sure you are covered for the expected, unexpected and everything in between.
There are so many drivers out there without vehicle insurance and if you are one of them, then you could end up paying hundreds of thousands in panel beater fees, and if the accident is your fault, then you will also have to pay for the other guy’s car to be fixed!
Have a clean out
Your poor car might be carrying around some old takeaway packets, empty water bottles, fuel slips, broken sunglasses you never wear anymore and a whole heap of other junk!
Set aside some time to clear out your car – the less weight your car is carrying around the less you will have to spend on fuel.
Have your car checked out by a mechanic
Have you been putting off a service for a while now?
Your car might need to have some work done such as an oil change, a new filter and just an all-around safety check to make sure your car is still performing at peak performance.
Not servicing your car can end up in some serious issues down the road. Imagine if you had something wrong with you, like a cough that won’t go away – you would go to the doctor, right? Well, the same thinking applies when something is wrong with your car. And even if something isn’t wrong, have a look in your car’s manual to see when your next service is due.

Drive like a gentleman or lady
When you drive aggressively – speeding, braking hard, taking corners too fast, rushing through the orange light – all of this takes a toll on your car.
The worse your driving is, the higher your chance of being in an accident is. You are also damaging your car in the process. Driving cautiously according to the speed limit will allow for your car (and you) to live longer. Yes, seriously.
