Accident and illness cover – Up to R43 000

Accidents are the things you don’t see coming. Like when your pet is hit by a car or gets involved in a fight. Accidents are emergencies when your pet needs immediate medical attention.

Accidents do not include issues that have developed over time such as bone issues or sores on your pet’s body. They are things that happen quickly and require you to rush your pet to the vet because of the issue.

Here’s what accident cover includes:

Burns or electrocution, car accidents, falls from a height, actions of another animal, poisoning, near drowning or embedded foreign bodies (if Spike swallows a rock).

Trauma that results in fractured bones, lacerations, abrasions, punctures or wounds, gastric torsion (twisting of the stomach).

An illness is an issue (disease or sickness) that started after your cover began.

Here is what your pet is covered for:

Treatment that needs an overnight stay or surgery (this overnight stay needs to be suggested by your vet and not something you think is a good idea).

Burial, cremation and euthanasia cover included for up to R1500.

Kennel fees

If something happens to you and you end up in the hospital and are unable to look after your pet, then we also include kennel feels in our Classic pet plan.

You are covered for up to R180 a day and R1800 per annum.

How to choose a pet insurance plan that suits your pet and your wallet

Now that you have a good idea of what our Pet Classic Plan includes, then you will probably already know if this is the right plan for you.

Picking the right pet medical insurance isn’t easy.

There’s a lot to consider. But, with Oneplan, we believe in making your life simpler and giving you options. Which is why we have FIVE different pet plans for you to choose from.

This means that you have the choice to find a plan that suits the healthcare needs of your pet and your budget.

Here are some of our top tips:

  1. Do not pick a pet plan based on price alone – cheaper is not always better
  2. Choose a pet insurer you feel you can trust
  3. Research the insurer online and check out what their customer feedback is like
  4. Make sure you read the fine print of your contract
  5. Know exactly what you are covered for and what you are not
  6. Think about the breed of your pet – some breeds have higher health risks than others
  7. Find out if you can keep your vet – with Oneplan, we let you go to any vet of your choice

Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan if I want to?

Of course, you can! All you have to do is give us one calendar month’s notice.

You can only change your plan every 6 months and waiting periods will apply for new cover benefits.

When should I insure my pet?

The sooner you insure your pet, the better. The older your pet gets, the more health risks they will develop.

Issues such as cancer are known to affect older dogs, and if your dog is diagnosed with a serious condition, then you may have to wait out a certain period of time before you can claim for medical bills relating to this.
