As any responsible pet parent knows, pet insurance will not only protect your finances but more importantly the health of your pet. When it comes to pet insurance, you don’t always need all the bells and whistles – sometimes all you need is an accident only pet insurance plan for only R80 a month.
At Oneplan Pet Insurance, we have created our range of pet healthcare plans to suit a wide range of pets and their parents. We get that no pet and no paw parent are the same, and because of this, we want to ensure you have options.
When it comes to insuring the health of your pet, having some form of cover is better than no cover at all. And as we all know, medical bills for our pets aren’t exactly budget friendly. Whilst the cost of a consult isn’t going to put you in debt, a pet medical emergency might.
The Cost of Pet Healthcare
The consultation fees at a vet cost between R300 to R500. This will depend on your chosen vet and the area that you live in. Then there are the costs of accidents and emergencies. Now, these are where the big bucks are spent.
You need to remember that veterinary care has advanced exponentially over the last few years, and as a result, the cost of medical equipment and surgery ‘advances’ with it. And whilst this is both a remarkable and incredible accomplishment in the world of animal healthcare as our pets can now lead longer and healthier lives, the effect felt on our wallets is not as positive.

The Reason for Pet Insurance
Cue pet insurance. Did you know that pet insurance was invented by a vet who could no longer bear witness to pet parents having to choose euthanasia as a result of not being able to afford vet bills to save their pet?
Pet insurance, like health insurance for humans, is a cost-effective way to save yourself from having to go into debt over trying to afford vet bills. The great thing about our pet insurance plans is that you can choose from accident or hospital cover which covers you for the basics or you can bump it up a notch and go for a more comprehensive plan such as our Pet Super Plan.
This plan includes cover for vet visits and routine care, as well as accidents and illness. Oh, and did we mention we also pay you before you go to the vet? We also let you go to ANY vet of your choice. Which means you are not limited to a specified network of vets.
Perhaps your pet is in good health, and you want something a little less comprehensive and a little more affordable, then look no further than our pet accident plan.

Oneplan’s Accident Only Pet Insurance: The Pet Accident Plan
Accident only pet cover is our most affordable level of cover for your pet, but it can make a huge difference in paying the bills when there is an accident.
What cover does this plan include?
This plan only includes cover for accidents.
The great thing about this plan is that it also includes cover for burial and cremation costs, as well as the euthanasia. This plan only costs R80 a month (for cats and dogs) and this includes an annual limit of R8500 for accident bills.
What is an Accident?
Accidents are the stuff you didn’t see coming – when your pet is involved in an accident, for example – gets hit by a car and requires you to rush him or her to the vet immediately. To be considered an accident, it needs to have resulted in an injury (bruises, scrapes and other bodily harm). Accidents do not include issues that have developed over time such as bone issues or sores on the pet’s body.
Keep in mind that our Pet Accident Plan does not include cover for illnesses.

What About the Age Limit for This Plan?
Another pawesome benefit for our accident-only pet plan is that there is NO age limit for your pet. In most cases, pets must be older than 8 weeks and younger than 9 years. But with this plan, your pet only has to be older than 8 weeks old.
This means that if you have a dog or cat who is getting a little grey in the face, then it’s a good idea to insure his or her health as soon as you can. Older pets are prone to accidents as their bones are weaker (the same applies to older humans).
