World No Tobacco Day was on the 31st of May, which means that the world is again paying special attention to the risks of smoking. However, while it is known that smoking is bad for people’s health, some smokers just aren’t deterred. This is because many campaigns that urge smokers to stop smoking focus on the negative effects of smoking. The problem with this is that many smokers have adopted the ‘it won’t happen to me’ attitude. This is common in all people, and isn’t by any means only limited to smokers, but this attitude means that campaigns detailing the negative effects of smoking are less effective.
