Now that our trial month (January) for the year is done, it’s time to knuckle down and focus on making this year the best one yet! First things first, make sure you’re focusing on your health in 2022. We’ve identified our best tips for a healthier year.

There are many things you can do to prioritise your health. Small changes will start to make a big difference. It’s easier to start on smaller health goals and then develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

You’ve probably heard it a million times but focusing on your health is one of the absolute best things you can do for yourself. Make this the year that you put yourself and your needs first.

5 Expert tips for a healthier 2022

The best way to make changes in your life sustainable is to start small. Don’t overwhelm yourself with a grocery list of changes you need to make. The more changes you insist on making, the less likely it will be that you’ll achieve everything you set out to and make it a lifestyle.

1. Smash some goals

Now, we can almost guarantee that you’ve heard this approximately 532 times in your lifetime. Almost all lists just like this one, start with this item or at least have it listed somewhere. 

As cliche as it may sound, it is the first step in creating healthy habits. Like we mentioned above, start small and start slow. Research some important healthy habits and choose your top 3 that are the most manageable and sustainable. We suggest;

  1. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day
  2. Save a take away treat for once a week
  3. Have only one or two blocks of chocolate after dinner if you’re craving something sweet 

By making smaller, more sustainable goals, you’ll be more motivated to continue on your journey. Make sure your goals are visible so that you’re reminded of what you set out to achieve.

2. Eat and eat well

There’s no reason you should go on a crazy diet to be healthy. More often than not, wild and restrictive diets cause you to feel worse about yourself, increase your cravings and will force you to give up after a couple of weeks or even a couple of days. 

All you need to do is eat nutrient-dense foods that will keep you fuller for longer. Make sure you are controlling the portions you consume as well. 

Do a little research or even visit a dietician or nutritionist to find out what foods work best for you and how much you should consume.

3. Get the necessary amount of Zzz’s

We’re stuck in a constant wheel of go-go-go in today’s society. The hustle never stops which means our precious sleep falls at the wayside.

When you aren’t getting enough sleep, your entire body takes a toll and you will no longer perform optimally. We guarantee that when you start ensuring that you get 8 hours of sleep every single night, you will begin to feel like a million bucks all around.

4. Let’s get physical

Start moving that body! How many of us spend our days sitting behind a laptop for almost 8 hours? We are definitely guilty of this. 

Make sure you’re moving your body at least once a day. Now, this doesn’t mean you need to kill yourself in a gym or anything. All you have to do is go for a walk for 30 minutes, play outside with your kids or your furry friends or even join a yoga class.

There are so many ways you can move your body that will not only be beneficial for your health but that are fun and easy to do!

5. Protect yourself and your loved ones

The biggest tip we have is planning for your health. Just like we suggested setting health goals for the year, you should also make sure you’re planning for all aspects of your health journey. This includes having an effective and trustworthy health insurance policy.
