Pet Med Savings: Day to day benefits for your four-legged friend
Making sure your pet gets what they need to get better
We know you would go to the ends of the world for your furry family member. The moment they walk on into our lives, we can’t help but fall in love.
It takes more than lots of cuddles and treats to keep their tails wagging - you also need to think about how you’re going to keep them safe and sound all year round. The way that most responsible pet parents around the world do it is through getting pet insurance.
Pet insurance isn’t anything new - in fact, pet insurance has already been around for over 100 years. The first pet insurance policy was sold in Britain in 1947. What initially started as insurance for horses and livestock started extending to household pets, and thank goodness it did!
Without pet insurance, millions of pet owners would be in terribly tricky situations and faced with exorbitant bills. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your financial security just to have a bundle of joy in the home, which is why we do what we do.
Why every pet owner needs pet insurance
We’re not sure if you’ve realised yet, but medical care for your pet is EXPENSIVE. When you add up all the vaccinations, teeth scaling, visits to the dentists and medication, you’ve spent well into tens of thousands before you know it.
As vets become more knowledgeable about curing certain conditions of performing certain procedures, their rates become more expensive. We can understand that - they do an incredibly important job and we cannot thank them enough for everything they do.
But your bank account may think otherwise. Are you prepared to pay for the cost of a R20 000 ligament repair? Or upwards of R60 000 for cancer treatment? Our pups and kittens don’t stay young and invincible for long (really, they never are invincible. Young pets and their curious natures can find themselves in a world of trouble).
You need pet insurance for all things big and small. And the small is what we’re going to focus on today: routine care and day-to-day benefits that come along with our unique Pet Med Savings.

What are Pet Med Savings?
Pet insurance isn’t just for the big accidents and scary health scares. It also helps you cover the costs of routine care, which tend to add up more quickly than a trip to the pet ER.
Pet Med Savings are there to help you get through the day-to-day of being a pet parent. We know you have certain obligations to keep your pet in tip-top shape and Pet Med Savings will get you there.
Pet Med Savings are exclusive to our Hospital Plan (as an add on), Classic Plan and Super Plan. This benefit falls under your Day-to-Day Cover and will cover routine care that doesn’t fall under casualty cover.

- Voluntary Sterilisation
- Tick and flea control
- Anal gland expression
- Dental care (teeth scaling and polishing)
- Nail clipping
- Chronic medication
- Hydro- and physiotherapy (not covered in hospital)
- Shortfalls and excesses that form part of the overall day to day annual limit

Pet Med Booster
It’s all good and well having a great routine cover, but what if you want more? Well, that’s where the Pet Med Booster comes in. Again, this add on benefit is exclusive to our Hospital Plan, Classic Plan and Super Plan.
For a small monthly fee, you can add a Pet Med Booster to pay zero excess and (wait for it) add more moola to your Pet Med Savings.
In case you don’t know what excess is, it’s the agreed-upon amount that you pay towards a claim and your insurer covers the rest. With the Pet Med Booster, you can wave goodbye to excess fees, meaning you can focus on getting your pet back to health instead.
For example let’s say you had our plan with all the bells and whistles: the Super Plan. You could add Pet Med Booster to double your Pet Med Savings from R850 to R1700.
