The wealthiest pets of 2021
Who knew being a famous pet could be so lucrative? Forget net-worths, pet-worth is where all the money's at!
If we got the chance to choose who we could be when we come back to live another life, we would seriously consider filling in for any of these 10 pets! With millions in their bank accounts and diamonds on their collars, welcome to the world of ridiculously rich animals!
Naturally, the idea of a wealthy pet may seem a bit strange. How on earth does a pet come to have so much to its name? The answer is pretty simple.
If somebody leaves a large sum of money to their pet, it doesn’t actually go directly to their animal (given that animals can’t use, keep or spend money). Instead, the money goes towards whoever the deceased has named as the distributor of the funds. The distributor of the funds will then use the money to care for the pet.

Other pets become rich through being owned by celebrities, appearing in movies or being internet sensations! As you’ll see, we have some of each on our list.
1. Gunther IV
The wealthiest dog in the world is a German Shepard, from Germany, who is the beneficiary of $375,000,000. Surprisingly, his inheritance wasn’t handed to him by his owner but rather by his (canine) father, Gunther III.
In 1992, German countess Karlotta Leibenstein left her entire estate to Gunther III. Gunther IV now owns properties in the Bahamas, Italy and Germany. He is cared for by expert butlers and maids who help him travel between his luxury homes and live his best millionaire-doggy life!
2. Grumpy Cat (Tardar Sauce)
Unless you’ve been living under a rock since 2012, you’ll have some recollection of this crazy cat. Known to the internet as Grumpy Cat and to his owner Tabatha Bundesan as Tarder Sauce, this feline made her fortune by simply...being herself.
The cat with the famously grouchy face managed to bring in $99,500,000 before passing away in 2019 at the age of 7. She became an integral part of memes and internet content everywhere, whilst also having an entire film created around her brand: Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever.
3. Olivia Benson
Now we’re moving into the popstar cat division! No, this cat is not famously rich for being on Law and Order SUV but she is named after the leading character, Olivia Benson.
The snow-white Scottish Fold belongs to none other than the cat-lady herself, Taylor Swift.
Starring alongside Swift in music videos and making appearances in commercials for Diet Coke and Ked Shoes, Olivia Benson can rest happily knowing she is worth a whopping $97,000,000.
4. Sadie, Sunny, Lauren, Layla and Luke
If we could be anybody’s dog, jeez would we love to be Oprah’s dogs. Can you imagine what a good boy she would make you feel like? Well, this mixed pack of five come as a package deal and together, they amount to $30,000,000.
USA born and bred, these doggos have been written into Oprah’s will for an amount of 30 million dollars.
Let’s take a break from the cats and dogs and introduce to you the richest rooster in the coop!
When Myles Blackwell died three days after his wife, Gigoo the hen became an instant multimillionaire to the tune of $15, 000, 000. Whilst some people do find it hard to believe that such extravagance should be left to an animal, the couple did donate $42.5 million to a trust fund for the arts, music and animal welfare.
Blackie was the last living cat of 15 cats owned by UK multimillionaire Ben Rea. At one point, Blackie was published in the Guinness World Book of Records as the world's richest cat but has since been overtaken.
Blackie was left a $12,500,00 inheritance.
“He is happy with a saucer of milk and some biscuits”, is what Maria Assuntas’ (the late owner of Tommasino the cat) lawyer has to say about the wealthy Italian cat.
Maria Assunta left $13,000,000 and her entire estate (which consists of villas and properties across Italy) to her cat, Tommassino. Here’s hoping he at least has a taste for slightly expensive biscuits!
Now here’s a dog that knows how to enjoy her oodles and poodles of cash. Conchita the Chihuahua inherited $11,300,000 from her owner Gail Posner who is now deceased. Conchita’s routine includes visiting the spa for treatments (coat, manicure, pedicure...the usual) on a weekly basis. The small dog was once gifted with a $10,000 Cartier necklace which remains unworn as it causes her discomfort.
Conchita has a full team of human staff members, including bodyguards who were collectively allocated $24 million to maintain the dog’s glamorous lifestyle.

9. Bart the Bear 2
If you have watched Game of Thrones, Into the Wild, We Bought a Zoo or An Unfinished Life, you would have seen Bart the Bear 2 on the big screen. You may also recognise him from Dr Dolittle 2.
Sometimes known as Little Bart, the Alaskan Brown Bear has accumulated $6,000,000 from a fruitful acting career. Doug and Lynne Seus adopted Bart 2 in 2000, the same year the cub was born.
Last but not least, we have one of the most likeable breeds on our list who happens to be owned by one of the most likeable actresses in Hollywood. Pontiac the Golden Retriever is due to inherit
$5,000,000 when his owner, Betty White, passes away.
Betty is well known for her animal activism and clearly, charity starts at home!
Would you consider leaving your wealth to your cat, bunny, dog or chicken? To be fair, we can understand why. We bring our animals into our homes and become solely responsible for their well-being. Many pet owners want to make sure their pets have a good life even once they are gone and there’s something really special about that.
