Helping You ‘Lockdown’

Do not let yourself get caught up in misinformation and fake news when it comes to COVID-19. Make sure to familiarise yourself with the following information to ensure that you know what to do in the unfortunate event that you contract the virus.

The start of the new decade has been off to a rather, admittedly, rough start (we promise that after this, we will never cancel social plans ever again!).

At the very beginning of 2020, a new novel virus, Coronavirus (COVD-19), began making headlines. Particularly because of the unpreceded speed at which it is transmitted and the current lack of a cure.

Fast forward a few months and nations across the globe are deeming this virus an international crisis. Countries have issued nationwide shutdowns, economies are put to the test and healthcare systems look to save countries as they navigate through this pandemic.

Your COVID-19 Knowledge

But even with the constant news streams, detailed infographics, Whatsapp chain messages (mostly from your family’s Whatsapp group) and staggering statistics, how much do you really know about COVID19? And what are the tell-tale symptoms you should be looking out for?

COVID-19 hysteria - There is no need to panic

While we all sit at home, adhering to the lockdown regulations, like the abiding citizens that we are (seriously though, stay at home guys, it’s for your own good), this isn’t to say that most people aren’t panicking. The current COVID-19 hysteria won’t have you wiping your nose without assuming that you have contracted the virus. These days we run from people who sneeze near us.

Now while this reaction is warranted, even somewhat justifiable, let’s make sure that we understand what the symptoms of COVID-19 look like first. Much of the fear surrounding this virus is rooted in misinformation, so we plan on calling out the false facts and busting some of those myths.

COVID-19 symptoms

It is important to note that healthcare practitioners are still learning all they can about this virus. So far we know that some patients showed no initial symptoms, whilst others showcased symptoms from the onset.

Despite symptoms varying from person to person, we’ve drawn up a quick list of symptoms that are often associated with the virus:

●        Fevers

●        Dry and excessive coughing

●        Fatigue

●        Persistent pressure or pain in the chest

●        Difficulty breathing (for severe cases)

What to do if you think you’ve been infected

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, make sure to call the COVID-19 24-hour hotline on 0800 029 999. While in less severe cases, it is possible and recommended to recover from the comfort of your home through self-care, we do suggest getting in contact with the medical team from the hotline. They will be able to determine the best course of medical action.

It is therefore crucial that your body gets plenty of rest, liquids and vitamins. These are a few necessities to get you back up and running. What’s better is that our health insurance plans help cover scripted medication, in order to speed up your recovery - but we will get to the insurance bragging in a second.
